Seattle’s 60 year-old Alaskan Way Viaduct is coming down in the next big earthquake. All of Seattle knows this. The 2001 Nisqually earthquake shook the elevated roadway to its core. And so it must come down.

But what to put in its place? How about something wonderful? How about something fantastical? How about…? The Biggest Tunnel Ever!!

Unfortunately, after drilling just a few hundred feet the uber-expensive drill got stuck. A budget of billions and there it sits, unmoving, since early December, 2013. The latest estimates are that it won’t start moving again until the coming summer.

Meanwhile, our region’s public transit is drastically under-funded and in desperate need of a fix. If we’re willing to fund this billion-dollar dud, we should get behind the buses and trains that get people around every day. This April, vote Buses!
